I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad E545, 4gb ram, 2.9 ghz without turbo boost.

Any thoughts?

I've upgraded my internet speed and bought this laptop, so in a week I will be steadily on KCNR and once I've upgraded my router.

What's wrong with AMD, lol

compares good with i5's 1st-3rd gen

I'd say it's an i5 2nd gen with wayy more power consumption, thats the biggest downfall though.

I just got a refurbished HP Pavilion Touchsmart 15.6", 2.10GHz, 8GB ram over the internet.

You got me beat on the processor speed

I wasn't planning on doing much with it except school work...if only it hadn't arrived with a broken screen.

Returned and wating for refund :|

Power consumption
speed.

You can't properly compare AMD and intel in a fair way. AMD just puts more cores into a CPU, has quadruple the power consumption for the same total speed (single core performance tends to be a bit better, but HT beats AMD's extra cores).
It also depends to which i5 you are comparing, 4th gen is latest, so you should compare to 4th gen (5th gen laptop isn't out yet :P).

Considering that you are comparing it to a intel i5 'U' series, is not good. The 'U' are for ultrabooks, they consume less power and are clocked at a lower rate, you should compare it to a i5-3320m or something, that'd be fair. The i5-3417U is clocked at 1.8gHz with a turbo to 2.8gHz so it can save power.

In terms of performance the Intel i5 that you compared it to will definitely beat that AMD chip due to Hyperthreading.

Can't find 3320m but theres 3340-3380m

Compares pretty well, again, only Hyper Threading and the Power comsumption kills the laptop.

And some of the i5's have better turbo frequencys but even though, the AMD chip has a good turbo frequency.

It's still a 2013 computer. When it comes you will see performance graphs :)

I'd say it's an 2nd gen i5 with wasting power. That's not that bad for an average day computer!
